The Constitution and Justice Committee has approved a bill aimed at improving the governance of Football Corporations (Sociedades Anônimas do Futebol - SAFs), protecting investors, and safeguarding the rights of clubs, football professionals, and developing athletes.
The text of Bill 2,978/23 amends sections of the law that established the SAF structure, expanding intellectual property rights related to football beyond third-party relationships. Under the proposed changes, SAFs will be able to economically exploit licensed or transferred trademark rights from the club, extending beyond the rights associated exclusively with players.
Regarding participation in other companies, the bill removes territorial restrictions and eliminates the prohibition on participating in companies whose primary purpose is the development of professional football athletes. This measure seeks to allow SAFs to engage in foreign companies, enabling clubs to expand their activities internationally.
The bill will now proceed to the Chamber of Deputies for further consideration.
